Charges fly back and forth between union, Waikiki hotel management – Pacific Business News (Honolulu):

The charges were filed with the National Laboer Relations Board as earlyas Jan. 22 of this capping off the union's ongoing fight with hotel owne r over contract negotiations andmanagement changes. the ILWU has charged the hotel with refusinfg to bargain collectivelywith them; repeatedly firing hotelo workers en masse; denying rights to union representation; making unilateralp changes on wages, hours and working conditions; and retaliatinvg or discriminating against workers who supported the union.
HTH which has filed its own charges against the union withthe NLRB, issued a statement Wednesday saying it will not recognize the union or continue any negotiations until those chargex are addressed, which could take months. "Based on the threatd to our employees, our owners, our executive team and the boycottin g ofour business, we do not recogniz or negotiate with people who threaten us," said Robert Minicola, HTH Corp. regional vice Thomas Cestare, director of the National LaborRelations Board's Hawaiji office, said the number of charges filed againsrt the hotel is "significant.
" The legalp challenges come as HTH resumes management of the 837-roo hotel from Outrigger Enterprises Group affiliate PBH which managed the hotel from January to Some 450 hotel workere were asked to reapply for their jobs and all exceptr 45 workers and seven managerx have been rehired.
